Falling asleep last night, we realized that we were in the PDX flight path. Could hear the planes coming in for awhile.
Big drop in elevation today. We took an alternate trail that most PCT hikers take. It goes by a series of waterfalls…one of which is quite magnificent. The builders of the trail actually cut a tunnel right behind the falling water. We were walking on a path where the slope above us was straight up and the slope below us was straight down. Essentially we were walking on a shelf. There was a cable bolted into the wall so that people could hold on to it if they wanted.
The hike brought us through an area where there were lots of day hikers. Probably the most people that we have seen on the trail since Yosemite Nat Park.
Got into Cascade Locks and picked up my maildrop, had lunch and got a motel room. Got the biggest software ice cream cones that o have ever seen.. JJs parents also stayed at the name motel and we went out to lunch with them Macho Taco, Udi and Tal.
After today, we have just 500 miles to Canada. Tomorrow we reach Washington!
