Jul 18 – Burney

July 18, 2012 by Beardoh

Slept in till nearly 6am…quite a full night of sleep when falling asleep at 9pm. Since we were only walking 11 miles, we slept in.

The walk into Burney Falls State Park was fairly flat and easy walking. The miles went by quite quick. Once at the park, we followed the springs from where the water starts as just a spring and then becomes a very large waterfall over less than a mile. It is pretty startling. Apparently there are underground streams that are close to the earth surface, coming from Mt Shasta that are feeding this particular feature.

Got into the town on a hitch from a guy with an RV…our first one. We were quite lucky as we hadn’t even made it to the road to start thumbing it and were just in the parking lot of the state park considering where we should try to hitch from. Great ride!

Got into Burney and headed for a breakfast place…had some great eats and then got a motel room. Got showers, laundry and all you can eat pizza…

Back to the trail tomorrow.
