Jul 23 – Bloody Run Trail

July 23, 2012 by Beardoh

Perfect temperature with a slight breeze made it excellent sleeping last night. Was on the trail at 6 for another larger mile day. Our typical leave time is 6 at this point, and I usually wake at 5:15, which allows me to pack and have a breakfast at a moderate pace. It is getting light these days at about 5:15, so I usually done even use a flashlight.

Generally good walking today. Had a decent uphill in the afternoon, but otherwise it was fairly flat or rolly ridge and side ridge walking. Great views for the whole day and saw Mt Shasta on occasion as well.

Rain threatened for a brief period. It started sprinkling just enough to put away my camera/phone and other things that I typically store on the outside of my pack that I cannot get wet. Never turned into much, but I could see that the rain did hit that area earlier in the day.

I wacked two of my middle toes on my left foot really hard today. There was a stump from a small tree on the trail that blended in with the rocks behind it. Still hurting 8 hours later. They don’t seem broken…hopefully will be in ok shape tomorrow. this was a surprise to me, as I stub my toes less than most people, but this one made up for it.

Caught up to Portrait and Castle today. This is the first time that I met Castle. She has been a ridge runner on the AT in Maryland for the last couple years. We hadn’t seen Portrait since Case de Luna back in the 400s (miles). Had a good time with them at dinner.

Camping at a real nice campsite on a saddle between two peaks. Some clouds in the sky, so I have my rain tarp at the ready, but not hung.

Daily Distance: 35
Trip Distance: 1,563.4
