Had a great weekend in Lake Isabella. Sweet Pea arrived in the evening on Friday and was able to take a zero with her Saturday, before she headed out on Sunday. Thrilled to have some time with her and that she made the big drive down.
We resupplied this am, before hitting the trail at around 11. Since Sweetpea drove us back to the trail, there wasn’t time lost trying to hitch.
Temps were not too bad to begin with, but it did heat up significantly during the afternoon. We only took a 40 min break for lunch, and continued walking to the water cache which we arrived at in the late afternoon.
At least 15 people were hanging out in the little bit of shade that there was at the cache. Golden Boy had brought up some sodas and gatoraide, which was a big treat after the 15 miles in the heat. We hung out for over an hour before doing a final five miles up onto the next ridge.
Climb up out of the pass was good. Sun was beginning to set so we had shade and some nice colors in the sky with the full moon. We are camping around 6000′, with the wind blowing fairly strong. On a slanty spot, so I expect to find myself sliding off the sleeping pad throughout the night.
