Jul 6 – Bigelows

July 6, 2011 by Beardoh

Today there was some climbing. The Bigelos were fairly challenging mtns as the trail was pretty much straight up. It was a fairly rocky trail with some boulder climbing but not to the extent of Katahdin. Views were great as they day was fairly clear while we were up on the mtn.

We stopped hiking when we got to the Horn Pond lean to’s and campsite..thinking that we would have a shorter day after the climbing and chill out by the pond. Unfortunately, the weather got very nasty with rains and hail that were heavier than what we experienced a couple days back on Pleasant Mtn. By the point that the storm started we had our hammocks and tarps up and headed for the lean to shelter. That was good place to wait it out. Not all of the hikers were as lucky.

Daily Distance: 12.2
Trip Distance: 183.0
