Clear and chilly overnight. Was great to wake up underneath a giant pine and look up through the branches to see blue skies. I can count the clouds that I have seen in the last two weeks on 1 hand.
We were pretty much the last ones out of camp. I think a bunch of folks were up early and moving fast to make sure they got a room at the motel. We didn’t know where we were going to stay and were not terribly concerned…so no real hurry. Anchorman had started a fire and it felt good in the chilly morning air.
The walk out to Big Bear City was good. Nice views through the pine forest. There were some trail magic sodas at the spot where the trail crosses the road….great surprise. I think we have got more trail magic in the past few days than on the whole AT.
The owner of the hostel where I had my package sent had just brought some hikers back to the trail, so we got a ride with him into town….quite fortuitous.
Once in town we hit the China buffet and then the ice cream stand….got laundry done, and Qball and I played a few hours of table tennis..pretty stoked to be at a hostel with pong….we might have to zero here tomorrow.
