First full day in Vermont was a delight. Started off early and had just four miles into West Hartford. There is a little diner in town that has a breakfast plate called the full belly. We split that and still had full bellies.
The landscape seemed to really change today as we had rolling hills through old farm fields. With the sun shining and warm weather, it felt like we were in the introduction to Little House on the Prairie. There was still plenty of elevation gain and loss and gain and loss throughout the day, but it was still reasonable to walk the 20 miles we had planned.
As the trail rolled over the tops of hills, there were patches of raspberries and blackberries, with plenty that were ripe. They were a wonderful break from walking. We are hopeful that there are more in our future as we walk south.
Shortly before the end of the day Beardo found an ice cream and soda stand off one the of the roads that the trail crossed. Nice afternoon treat.
Poison ivy is here. Having to choose the lesser of the evil spots to make camp. We hope this is temporary.
