We all slept great last night. The nice evening temps were very pleasant. We got up around 6 and had breakfast at our campsite picnic table with Mr Furious and then headed out. Mr Furious is going to take a couple days more in the canyon before heading over to California for the PCT.
The walk out of the canyon was beautiful. Lots of great views. The north Rim is not as wide open and exposed as the south Rim, so the views are of the narrower canyons within. The trail was in great shape and well graded. We came across three groups of Americorp volunteers working on the trail.
On the way up, we met a woman who was competing in the AZT 750 race, which is a mtn bike race that shares much of the same trail as the AZT hiking trail. The bikers cannot ride through the canyon, so they carry their bikes down across and up… Brutal.
We got to the rim around 10:30 and took a nice break. It was cool and windy up at the top and that is how the rest of the day was. We were mainly flat with some small climbs.
Tonight it is windy and cold. We all have our flies up and the trees overhead are quite loud as the wind pushes through them. We have large rocks over our hammock tarp stakes, so hopefully our guy lines stay secure through the night. May need some earplugs tonight.
