Cool night equaled a good night of sleep for all of us. Out and rolling around 6:20am. Stayed cool most of the day. Qball had his down coat on till around 10…Probably the latest since our first day on the trail.
It appears that we have traded views and flowers for easier walking and being in the shade (at least a good amount of the time) since we got up on the Mogollon Rim…. Which, at the moment is just fine. The thorns and the rocky slopes are still fresh enough in our brains to enjoy a more monotonous day walking through the pines. It is still beautiful and very nice to walk through.
Water sources today we’re mostly dirt tanks (big holes in the ground that look like mini ponds and are full of dirty water) that are here for livestock. There was one beautiful creek that was clear early in the day. Tomorrow it will be all dirt tanks except for one spring.
We past the 500 mile mark just after lunch 🙂
Late in the day, we had an elk cross the trail I front of us, roughly 100 yards away. First one on the trail. Hopefully more to come. This area up on the Rim is very grassy, and just seems like the kind of place to see a herd of elk feasting in a meadow.
Easy to find flat camping for Qball and easy hammocking hanging for the two of us. We have a nice soot tonight and the air is cool like last night, so hopefully we’ll all be well rested tomorrow morning again.
