Had a great day off in Pine yesterday. Did our laundry at a laundromat that had cookies, popcorn, and coffee. The town had a mid sized grocery store that is pretty decent. Staying at THAT Brewery and Pub was good. They have excellent food, WiFi, and the lodging was really a good deal for hikers. Levi and crew took good care of us.

Headed out of Pine around 6:30 this morning. We had a walk up the road to get to the trail and we saw some elk on our way there were around 8 hanging out pretty close to the road. Too dim to get any photos though.
The trail was excellent today. Very well built and we’ll maintained. Kudos to the folks who have this section under their care.

Most of the day was spent on a gradual climb with views of the Mogollon Rim to the north and vast pine forests looking in all other directions. Reminded us a lot of the South and East sides of the Tahoe Rim Trail… Great Pine smell with nice tread for walking, hiking or running.
We both hit the trail with new shoes. We were both really looking forward to getting a fresh pair as we both had large rips in each of our shoes that were letting in small stones and other debris. SweetPea got a new pair of Brooks Cascadia shoes and Beardoh is trying out Altra trail runners. So far, so good for both of us.

Tonight we are camped near the General Springs log cabin, which was in use in the early 1900s. We are amongst the tall pines and there is little under growth. As of this afternoon, we are on the Mogollon Rim, which is part of the Colorado Plateau. We’ll be on the Plateau for the rest of the way to Utah.
