AZT 23 –  LF  Ranch

March 29, 2015 by Beardoh

Daily Miles: 14
Total Miles: 440
Camp elevation: 3200 feet

We all slept good last night and got up and rolling as soon as our alarms went off.

We were on the trail by 5:45, just as it was light enough so we didn’t need to use our headlamps.

We dropped in elevation early in the morning,  and came upon some spots that were really cold.   There was even frost on the ground.   It is always interesting to see how the temperatures can be so different in a small area.

Frost on the logs

The terrain was a mixed bag of ups and downs,  rocks and thorns.   We had a big decent down in the afternoon.   The pokey and scratchy stuff continues to grow into the trail and chew up our legs.   It has been so warm the past two days and there was virtually no shade in the afternoon.   We all felt like our skin was roasting.

We met a trio of siblings hiking a section of the trail.   They were planning to stay at LF Ranch as well,  so we figured we would have the chance to talk with them in the evening,  so we kept going so we could get to LF Ranch as early in the afternoon as possible.

We made it to LF Ranch by 1:30, and we’re so happy to arrive.   We got showered and rested for the afternoon.   We laid in our bunks and listened to a podcast.   Very restful.

We had a great dinner,  made by Mary Anne,  of enchiladas,  Spanish rice,  salad,  beans,  and rice pudding and cheese cake for dessert.   We all ate a ton of food and enjoyed the conversation with the siblings,  Merle,  Earl,  and Melanie.

We are crashing quick as it gets close to 7:00.  Time for bed,  as we have a big day ahead of us as we try to make it into Pine tomorrow for a zero day.
